Organochlorine pesticides exposure & preterm birth

چکیده
occurs before 37 wk gestational age. In USA, the preterm delivery rate is 12-13 per cent; in Europe and other developed countries, reported rates are generally 5-9 per cent 1. PTB accounts for 75 per cent of perinatal mortality and it is the leading direct cause of prenatal and neonatal death, resulting in 3.1 million newborn deaths annually. Half of preterm infants have longterm morbidity such as severe childhood neurological disability2. Preterm birth is a major contributor of infant mortality in India and constitutes 31 per cent of neonatal deaths3.

Association of In Utero Organochlorine Pesticide Exposure and Fetal Growth and Length of Gestation in an Agricultural Population
From 1940 through the 1970s, organochlorine compounds were widely used as insecticides in the United States. Thereafter, their use was severely restricted after recognition of their persistence in the environment, their toxicity in animals, and their potential for endocrine disruption. Although substantial evidence exists for the fetal toxicity of organochlorines in animals, information on huma...
متن کاملChlordecone exposure, length of gestation, and risk of preterm birth.
Persistent organic pollutants have not been conclusively associated with length of gestation or with preterm birth. Chlordecone is an organochlorine pesticide that has been extensively used to control the banana root borer population in the French West Indies. Data from the Timoun Mother-Child Cohort Study conducted in Guadeloupe between 2004 and 2007 were used to examine the associations of ch...
متن کاملGestational exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals in relation to infant birth weight: a Bayesian analysis of the HOME Study
BACKGROUND Pregnant women are exposed to a mixture of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). Gestational EDC exposures may be associated with changes in fetal growth that elevates the risk for poor health later in life, but few studies have examined the health effects of simultaneous exposure to multiple chemicals. This study aimed to examine the association of gestational exposure to five chem...
متن کاملAssociation of organochlorine pesticides with the mRNA expression of tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) & cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) genes in idiopathic preterm birth
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Preterm birth (PTB) is an important cause of prenatal death, neonatal morbidity and mortality and adult illness. Increased inflammation occurs in normal parturition, and inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress are found to be higher in PTB cases. The present study was planned to investigate the association of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) with mRNA expression of i...
متن کاملGene environment interaction in preterm delivery with special reference to organochlorine pesticide: a case control study.
OBJECTIVES To assess the Gene-Environmental interaction between maternal organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) level and CYP17 gene polymorphism with the risk of preterm delivery (PTD). MATERIALS AND METHODS Maternal blood samples of hundred cases (n = 100) of PTD and of equal number of healthy controls were collected at the time of delivery. OCPs levels were estimated by Gas chromatography system...
